• This is an attempt to describe analytically how the irregularities of slivers are removed in an automatically controlled drafting mechanisms . 'e assumed that linear differential equations can describe the characteristic of various parts of the drafting mechamism, and appropriate transfer functions were assumed.<BR> Several calculations were done on the models to investigate the effects of various system parameters on the eff ectiviness of the drafting mechanisms . These investigations gave better understanding and perspective of the basic nature of such mechanisms than the intuitive and empirical approach prevailed so far,
