The dynamic characteristics of the Toyobo Continuous Automated Spinning system (CAS) has been investigated by applying the linear feed back theories.<BR> In CAS, cotton is fed in loose form, rather than in laps, to the cards by the reserve box method. This method of feeding has been found to produce card slivers of good evenness even when the piano motion is removed from the card.<BR> Cotton delivered by the blowing machine is distributed to each card by means of a Unit Hopper and a number of branch conveyors. On-off control on the branch conveyors has been found to work well in the automatic distribution of cotton if the Unit Hopper has a sufficient delivery rate.<BR> The automatic finisher drawer (Super Auto Drawer, or SAD) contains an automatic evening device based on the open loop control principle. The highest 1 degree of evenness was obtained with the evening device when the grain factor K<SUB>f</SUB> was made<BR> K<SUB>f</SUB> = 1 <BR> and the parameter γ as defined below was made <BR> γ = −0.6 <BR> where <BR> γ = (Memory time) − (Time for transpotation between the measuring roll and the draft system) ⁄ (Time constant of the servo)<BR> SAD mentioned above is preceded by the Sliver Reversing Drawer (SRD). SRD is a novel drawing frame which cuts slivers and automatically reverses its direction of drawing. SRD prcduces sliver ends, but SAD is fully capable of eliminating such stepwise change in the weight of sliver bundle if K<SUB>f</SUB> and γ are properly set. <BR> The super-high draft frames with a draft ratio of 360 has proved to be successful if spinning conditions are praperly selected.
