The effect of chemotherapy for 12 patients with <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> infection were studied. <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> was identified more than 4 times and their maximum count of colonies were more than 100 during the period from 1967 to 1977. All these cases were treated as pulmonary tuberculosis at first. The drugs were changed when <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> infection was suspected from clinical microbiological method (Later, <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> were identified from all 12 cases). Excretion of acid-fast bacilli in their sputa were observed after the change of the drugs.<BR>Following results were obtained.<BR>1) The combination of kanamycin plus prothionamide (or ethionamide) plus ethambutol was most effective to <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> infection, then kanamycin plus prothionamide, next prothionamide plus ethambutol, and ethambutol only was least effective.<BR>2) The pattern of drugs resistance of <I>Mycobacterium intracellulare</I> was nearly constant in Kitchner's semiliquid agar media.
