Numerous attempts have been reported by many workers to improve the practical methods in the serodiagnosis of leptospirosis. Efforts were made to find diagnostic test with high sensitivity and specificity that is easily performed without the use of living leptospirae.The leptospiral sensitized-erythrocyte lysis test developed by Chang and others was studied by us using freeze-dried antigen obtained from sonically disrupted cells and the results were compared with those of the agglutination-lysis test. The test was observed to be a valuable diagnostic procedure.Studies were also made on the indirect fluorescent antibody test and the results were also compared with those of the agglutination-lysis test. Test results with the 2 procedures showed good correlation, but the sensitivity of the fluorescent antibody test was lower than that of the agglutination-lysis test.
