The purpose of this study was to observe the learing process of speech behavior in 33 hearing impaired children aged 3 to 6 years. Hearing levels of the children were 63-130dB. The popular nursery rhyme "Genkotsuyama no tanukisan" (The Badger of Kist Mountain") was used to analyze the learning process of verbal behavior. Verbal behavior was assessed for the following seven different levels<BR>1. Presentation of the nursery rhyme by face-to-face singing with gestural movements;<BR>2. Presentation by face-to-face singing with no gestural movement;<BR>3. Presentation by singing with a tape recorder. The song was recorded during 13 seconds.<BR>4. Presentation was the same as the 3rd level, but recorded during 10 seconds;<BR>5. Presentation by recorded song with a band. The song was recorded three times during 12, 10 and 8 seconds;<BR>6. The child sang the song with gestural movements;
