An effective method has been presented there-by to trace statistically the factors of errors and their ranges resulting from the measurement by Warburg's monometer and to minimize such errors on priority basis.
According to the author's experiments, errors of measurement to be produced from one vessel are usually ±2%. However, in the case of such sample as glutamic acid which requires a high degree of analytical precision, it often happens that deviation and bias in the values must be below ±0.5%. In that case, instead of seeking the mean value by merely increasing the number of vessels, the author introduced an empirical formula thereby to calculate the precision of the mean value of measurement to such an extent that highly precise values could be obtained, and a nomograph was introduced in order to simplify the determiation.
The number of measurements to be taken to reach the required precision could be selected by using the nomograph, which also made it possible to determine the least yet sufficient number of sets (or measurements). Besides, in order to offset differences among the measuring vessels, a new method was devised to eliminate the complicate operation of determining vessel constant.
Moreover, some references have also been made to the inhibitors which are included in the sample of L-glutamic acid when the latter is decarboxylated by using decarboxylase (from pumpkins or E. coli).
