Carcinoma of Nasal Cavity : A Retrospective Investigation of 20 Patients

A retrospective review of 20 patients of carcinoma of the nasal cavity treated for the first time at Kurume University Hospital from 1971 to 1980 was completed. All patients underwent curative treatments. The results of this retrospective studies are summarised as follows. (1) Sex ratio between male and female was 1.2 to 1 (11/9). Age ranged from 36 to 73 years and the mean age was 56 years. (2) Histologically, 14 (70%) was squamous cell carcinoma, 2 (10%) lymphoepithelioma, 1 (5%) transitional cell carcinoma, 2 (10%) adenoid cystic carcinoma and 1 (5%) mucoepidermoid carcinoma. (3) The 3-year and 5-year actuarial survival rates were 74% and 60%. (4) There were 8 deaths, in which 6 were from tumor and 2 were from intercurrent disease.
