A Clinical Study on Double Cancer associated with Colorectal Cancer.

For 8 years, from 1984 through 1991, we have treated 15 patients, 11 males and 4 females, with double cancer associated with colorectal cancer, 4 synchronous and 11 metachronous. Gastric cancer is the most frequent among them.<BR>The mean patient age was 66.9 years, and they had a great tendency for malignant disease in their relatives, which accounted for 46.7 %.<BR>Generally, patients who underwent radical surgery for colorectal cancers tended to develop another cancer postoperatively, and patients of synchronous double cancer tended to have non-curative operation because of cancers of other organs, whereas patients of metachronous double cancer underwent curative operation for secondary cancer only in 63.6 %.<BR>It should be kept in mind not to overlook another cancer preoperatively and to make efforts to detect new cancers of other organs postoperatively.
