1. Noradrenaline Effect on Inferior Mesenteric Angiography of Colonic and Rectal Carcinoma

Inferior mesenteric angiography has been performed before and after intra-arterial injection of noradrenaline (NA) in 15 patients with carcinoma of the colon and rectum.<BR>We discussed the usefulness of pharmacoangiography to evaluate the size of mass and tumor growth through the bowel wall.<BR>To compare the vascularization of tumor, angiography of resected specimen was also performed. Following NA injection, constriction of inferior mesenteric artery was observed in the majority of our cases.<BR>In 5 cases given NA 10 μg or more, marked arterial constriction caused failure of the filling of the tumor and prevented the correct diagnosis. Diagnostic effect of NA 2-5 beg injected in other 7 cases was approximately the same before and after the administration.<BR>In other 3 cases 2 to 5 μg of NA improved the diagnostic value to define the delineation and infiltration of the tumor.
