Phase-transfer catalytic reactions were carried out in w/o emulsions prepared by a tandem ultrasonic treatment (20 kHz → 1.6 MHz → 2.4 MHz). The reaction rate in the tandem sonicated solution was apparently higher than that in the single sonicated (20 kHz) and untreated solutions. This can be ascribed to reduction of emulsion droplet size (increase in the interfacial area between oil and water boundary).
