Chemotaxonomy of Ferns 4. : Cheilanthes chusana and Aleuritopteris Species

To clarify the relationship between the two genera, Cheilanthes and Aleuritopteris from a chemotaxonomical standpoint, the constituents of Cheilanthes chusana were examined. A new steroidal glycoside, (22R)-cholest-5-ene-3β,7β,22-triol-7,22-bis-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1a) and a new phenol glycoside, 2-methyl-6-prenylbenzene-1,4-diol-1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2a) were isolated and their structures were established. Three fiavonoid glycosides, kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (3), kaempferol-3-O-β-o-rutinoside (4) and quercetin-3-O-β-rutinoside (5) were also isolated and identified. As the chemical constituents of Cheilanthes chusana were very different from those of Aleuritopteris species, we consider that Aleuritopteris species might be separated from Cheilanthes from a chemotaxonomical standpoint.
