The fluoride contents of various Japanese and Chinese crude drugs as well as tea leaves which are available on the market were determined by the alizarin-complexone spectrometry. Of the crude drugs examined, Artemisiae Herba, Camelliae Folium, Fossilia Ossis Mastodi and tea leaves showed high fluoride contents (>100 ppm dry wt) and Carthami Flos, Gambir, Cordyceps, Ginseng Radix, Platicodii Radix, Lithospermi Radix, Ostreae testa and Thujiae orientalis Folium showed relatively high contents (20-60 ppm).
