The Modified Edge Representation (MER) is the concept to be used in the surface-to-line integral reduction for computing the surface radiation integrals in diffraction analysis. The physical optics (PO) surface integration is transformed into the line integration with the remarkable accuracy even for the curved surface and for sources very close to the scatterer. The scattering Geometrical Optics (SGO), defiend analytically as the stationary phase point contribution of PO integration at the pole of MER. The natural question is whether the indentation line integral of MER produces GO or not. In this paper, the differences between SGO and line integral of MER are discussed for scattering from a smooth conducting ellipsoid. The difference term is given in analytical from for the first time, which explains all the empirical relations between SGO and MER reported before.
