We analyzed for amino acids and hydrocarbons in two simulated samples of the MUSES-C sample return project. In addition, we analyzed elemental carbon and sulfur concentrations, and stable carbon isotope ratios. We also analyzed those two kinds of organic compounds in Murchison for comparison. One sample (No. 1D) contained only protein amino acids, aliphatic hydrocarbons without pristane and phytane, and only specific polyaromatic hydrocarbons. Characteristics of these organic compounds are different from that of Murchison. It is likely that an artificial mixture of amino acids and hydrocarbons had been added to this sample, together with the consideration of a relatively small carbon concentration (0.044 wt percent). The other sample (No. 2D) contained much smaller amounts and kinds of protein amino acids and polyaromatic hydrocarbons than the sample 1D, in spite of strikingly greater amounts of aliphatic hydrocarbons including pristane and phytane, and carbon concentration (0.30 wt percent). The sample seems to be contaminated by terrestrial biological hydrocarbons.
