The traditional TCP assumes a wireless loss as a loss due to congestion and reduces its transmission rate. This characteristic of traditional TCP fails to take advantage of the available network capacity and significantly affects its performance. We propose a new algorithm called TCP Amal to improve the TCP performance by distinguishing wireless losses from congestion losses. TCP Amal helps to achieve better throughput compared to other TCP algorithms without external support as observed through a simulation based study. Moreover, the simulation experiments showed that TCP Amal is TCP friendly thereby enabling coexistence with other transport protocols.
