In this paper, based on a survey of plate thickness measurement records, the generation and progress of corrosion of each longitudinal strength member was investigated. Also, the amount of thickness diminution due to corrosion of each member was evaluated by the probabilistic corrosion model. Next, the diminution in the transverse cross-section modulus and the diminution in the ultimate strength of a sample single hull tanker were evaluated considering the effects of corrosion. The results confirmed that it is possible to satisfactorily estimate the diminution rate by assuming a uniform corrosion condition based on the average value of the amount of thickness diminution of each member. It has also been confirmed that the transverse cross-section modulus and ultimate strength diminish almost deterministically, even if there is a random scatter in the diminution of each structural member.
