By using Koike's new method of classification, studies were made of the fingerprints of the male inhabitants of Ichihara-gun, Chiba Prefecture. The studies revealed the following results : (1) The fingerprint of S type on the left small finger showed the highest incidence of all the types, while the fingerprint of B type on the left ring finger showed the lowest incidence (There was no left ring finger having this type of fingerprint.). (2) a. The fingers having the highest incidence of the B type fingerprint were the index fingers of both hands. b. The fingers which showed the highest incidence of the S type fingerprint were the little finger of the left hand and the middle finger of the right hand. c. The thumbs of both hands showed the highest incidence of the ODS type fingerprint. d. The highest incidence of the OW type fingerprint was shown by the ring fingers both hands. (3) When the five fingers of the left hand were.examined, the S type fingerprint showed the highest incidence, followed by the OW, ODS and B types in the indicated order. When the five fingers of the right hand were examined, the OW-S types showed the highest incidence, followed by the ODS and B types in the indicated order. In the incidence among the ten fingers of both hands, the S type fingerprint occupied the first place, followed by the OW, OBS and B types in the indicated order. (4) The incidence of the type of fiingerprint varied greatly in different regions of the country : the B, S and ODS types showed higher incidences among the male inhabitants of Aomori and Akita Prefectures in Tohoku District than am ong those of Ichihara-gun, while the OW type fingerprint showed higher incidence among the male inhabitants of Ichihara-gun than among those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures.
