By using Koike's new method of classification, studies were made of the fingerprints of the female inhabitants of Ichihara-gun, Chiba Prefecture. The studies revealed the following results : (1) The fingerprint of S type on the right middle finger showed the highest incidence of all the types, while the fingerprints of B and ODS types on the left ring finger showed the lowest incidence. (2) a. The fingers having the highest incidence of the B type fingerprint were the index fingers of both hands. b. The fingers with the highest incidence of the S type fingerprint were the left small finger and the right middle finger. c. The thumbs on both fingers showed the highest incidence of the ODS type fingerprint. d. The highest incidence of the OW type fingerprint was shown by the ring fingers of both hands. (3) When the five fingers of the left hand were examined, the incidences of the fingerprints of B, S and ODS types were lower among the female inhabitants of Ichiharagun, and the incidence of the OW type fingerprint was higher among them, than among those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures in Tohoku District. When the five fingers of the right hand were studied, the incidence of the B type fingerprint was lower among the female inhabitants of Ichihara-gun than among those of Aomori Prefecture, the incidence of the S type fingerprint was higher among the female inhabitants of Ichihara-gun than among those of Akita Prefecture, the incidence of the ODS type fingerprint was lower among the female inhabitants of Ichihara-gun than among those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures and the incidence of the OW type fingerprint was higher among the female inhabitants of Ichihara-gun than among those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures.
