By using Koike's new method of classification, studies were made of the fingerprints of the inhabitants of Kodama-gun, Saitama Prefecture. The studies revealed the followingresults: (1) The fingerprint of S type on the left small finger showed the highest incidence of all the types, while the fingerprint of B type on the right small finger showed the lowest incidence. (2) The B type fingerprint was most often found on the index finger, the S type on the small finger and the middle finger, the ODS type on the thumb and the OW type on the ring finger. (3) When the five fingers of both the right and the left hands were examined, there was significant difference between the inhabitants of Kodama-gun and those of Ichiharagun, Chiba Prefecture in the incidence of the ODS type fingerprint alone; there were, however, significant differences between the inhabitants of Kodama-gun and those of Aomori and Akita prefectures in Tohoku District in the incidences of all the types of fingerprints : the incidences of the B, S and ODS types were lower among the inhabitants of Kodamagun than among those of Akita and Aomori Prefectures, while the incidence of the OW type fingerprint was higher among the inhabitants of Kodama-gun than among those of Aomori and Akita Prefectures. This observation indicates that the incidence of a type of fingerprint may vary greatly in different regions of the country.
