Bloods taken from a human body for the purpose of examining the sedimentation velocity of the red blond corpuscles, are sometimes transported by train, Motor-car or bicycle. What changes occur in the sedimentation reaction in such Gases was a question which I sought to study experimentally wich an electrically operated machine, i.e., a vibrator with a vibrating-amplitude of 2cm (in a horizontal position) and a vibrating Speed of 140 times a miaute, thus reproducing somewhat the shaking motion of trains. I took bloods from some tuberculosis patients (some of which were known as to have a sedimentation velocity under 30mm after 1 hour, while others were over 30mm) und from men of normal health. I divided the blood taken from one man into two or three parts: one part to be preserved intact for contrast, and the other parts to be subjected to the vibrator shaking for 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes. After the shaking, simultaneously I put the bloods (shaken, and not shaken) into Westergren's sedimentation tubes, and read the graduation after 10, 20, 30 minutes, 1, 2 und 24 hours. The results were as follows: 1. Of the three kinds of blood, after all the durations of shaking and after all the periods of settling 69.3% were retarded, 13.8% advanced and 16.9% remained the same grade as the contrast. 2. Of the three kinds of blood, those over 30mm of sedimentation in one hour, suffered most severely from the effeet of the vibration (either being retarded or advancing), those under 30mm middling, and bloods taken from men of healthy condition the least. 3. The difference of the grade of retardation was not clearly discerned among the three kinds of bloods or the lengths of the vibration. (Statistical observation of the advancing cases were omitted as the cases were too few.) 4. The grade of retardation or advancing was larger in the beginning of settling and as time advanced the difference became relatively small. The difference of either retardation or advancing after 1 hour of settling stood, however, over 20%. As the sedimentation value of 1 hour is important in the clinic, caution should be paid in such cases.
