Pieces of the blandder and ureters of healthy rabbits were soaked in distilled water and buffer solutions of pH1.2, pH3.924, pH6.987 and pH8,97 and the changes in their weight were observed for 10 days. The results obtained were as follows: 1) The tissues of both bladder and ureter showed the maximum swelling on the first day and deereased in weight gradually on the following days. 2) The bladder tissues swelled in the four buffer solution cited above. The relations between the swelling and the pH were as follows: pH1.2>pH6.987>pH8.97>pH3.924 3) The ureter tissue swelled in the solutions of pH6.987 and pH8.97. and showed dehydration in the solution of pH3.924, while in the solution of pH1.2 it swelled at first and afterwards showed dehydration. The relations between the swelling and the pH were as follows. pH6.987>pH8.97>pH1.2>pH3.924 4) The swelling coefficient of bladder (tissues) was always larger than that of the ureters.
