From the statistical observation of age, presence or absence of venereal diseases, state of education, and domicile (native place) of the applicants for prostitution licenses in Kioto for the past ten years (1923-1932) the following conclutions were deduced. 1) 80 per cent. of the applicants were between 18 and 24 years old. 2) Some or other venereal disease was found in 10 per cent. of the applicants. 3) The educational condition was much improved in these ten years, i.e. 10 years ago, the proportion who had passed through a primary school (6 years course) was only 17.8 per cent., while recently it has advanced to 65.2 per cent. 4) Nowadays the number of applicants from Kochi, Ehime (both in Shikoku-Island), Fukuoka and Kumamoto (both in Kyushu-island) have increased, while those from Kioto, Osaka and Hyogo have notably decreased.
