A test apparatus of a turbine scroll has been devised to investigate the three-dimensional flow phenomena in arbitrary cross sections. The scroll is of parallel end wall type and based on a logarithmic spiral. The distributions of the total pressure and three velocity components have been measured in the scroll passage and at the nozzle exit. The secondary flow field was found to be dominated mainly by two large passage vortices. Although the favorable pressure gradient suppresses an extreme growth of wall boundary layer, the secondary flow strongly affects the distributions of the flow angle and mass flux in the direction of passage height and in the circumferential direction. The effects of the scroll entrance region and nozzle flow angle on the flow field have been clarified.
