Neutron-Scattering Study of the Localized Mode in β-Pyrochlore Superconductors AOs_2O_6(Condensed matter : structure and mechanical and thermal properties)

Inelastic neutron-scattering and neutron powder-diffraction experiments were carried out to investigate the localized mode, proposed from various bulk measurements, in the β-pyrochlore AOs_2O_6 (A=K, Rb, Cs). The localized mode was identified in all three compounds as well as in another β-pyrochlore CsW_2O_6. The anharmonicity of the mode is weak in RbOs_2O_6 and CsOs_2O_6 but substantial in KOs_2O_6.
