The main purpose of this paper is to present a statistical analysis of an English proficiency test for the third-grade students at Hakodate National College of Technology in 2006 so that we may confirm whether or not their abilities have been improved through the new curriculum since entering this college as freshmen. A placement test administered by the STEP (Society for Testing English Proficiency) Inc. was employed in order to measure their English proficiency in terms of the following skills, such as vocabulary, idioms, grammar, sentence structure, reading comprehension, and listening. The results and analyses reveal that their performances have been definitely developed in comparison with the results of their freshmen. It should be added that the revised new curriculum has worked well at the present moment.
