The purpose of this paper is to present a progress report on introducing extensive reading program into the basic English class for the first-grade students at Hakodate National College of Technology. This program is now being conducted for both improving their reading ability and investigating how the students' motivation for reading has been changed by promoting the extensive reading for about 6 months through a questionnaire survey. The results of the questionnaires may reveal that this approach has promoted the students' interests for reading texts much more than before.
