215 ACTIVE NOISE CONTROL FOR A MOVING EVALUATION POINT USING IMPULSE RESPONSE INTERPOLATION METHOD(O.S.3 Noise and Sound Control I)

Active Noise Control (ANC) is a technique for canceling a primary noise by a secondary controlled sound. In ANC, the transfer function of the error path (TFEP) between the control source and the moving evaluation point changes significantly when the evaluation point moves. This effect results in poor noise control performance. It is difficult to identify the change of TFEP exactly with a moving evaluation point using conventional methods. In this study, a new method to identify the TFEP at an arbitrary point in ducts is proposed. This method is based on the plane wave theory, whereby the impulse response of the TFEP is derived analytically as a function of position, using measured impulse responses at two points. The total impulse response of the duct is calculated using a round trip of proceeding and reflecting impulses and the transfer function that expresses the acoustical characteristics of the duct. This method results in a reduction of computation time. This method is applied to update the compensation filter of the varying TFEP with the moving evaluation point. Experiments with a straight tube were carried out and the results show that the noise can be suppressed significantly.
