Abstract A calculation procedure of the second-order catalytic rate constant attributed to catalytically active group has been proposed for the solvolyses of reactive esters and amides catalyzed by pendent-imidazole containing polymer and copolymers (PIm). On the solvolysis of neutral substrate, this constant (kIIcat) was only 1-30 times larger than the usual one (kcat) calculated with overall concentrations of PIm catalysts. However, kIIcat became 100-200 times larger than kcat on the solvolysis of charged-substrates after electrostatic attraction to charge-opposite site on PIm chains.
