Junior and senior high school teachers often participate in seminars to brush up their English ability. However it is doubtful whether the seminars set up objects that teachers require, and follow a proper procedure to attain the goals. Recently, we conducted a seminar for junior high school teachers in which they learned how to study English in order to improve their own knowledge. The purpose was to think about effective learning methods for teachers. When the three-day seminar ended, we checked whether the seminar was successful or not in attaining the purposes, and the questionnaire results were affirmative. So in this paper, we describe our seminar and discuss how a seminar for junior high school teachers should be. Especially we insist that as they are engaged in teaching, they should study the pedagogical dimension of English and then study English for movies, music, newspapers, and so on. For teachers, studying English education signifies English for Specific Purposes and studying English for the latter areas represents English for General Purposes. We also mention content-based teaching. In our seminar, the purpose was brushing up English ability, but we aimed at its acquisition through thinking about topics in English.
