Struthiofilaria megalocephala gen. et sp. n. (Nematoda: Filarioidea) is described from the body cavity of an ostrich Struthio camelus which had been imported from Republic of South Africa, and died in the Misaki Park Zoo, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The adults are of moderate size (females approximately 7cm long, males about 4cm long), and have a laterally expanded head, many minute cuticular bosses or papillae in the lateral fields of body, and a tail less than twice the body width at cloacal aperture or anus in both sexes. Females are didelphic, with anterior vulva. Males have unequal, dissimilar spicules with pointed tips, and both pre- and postcloacal papillae. Microfilariae are sheathed, with tail folded back alongside body with pointed tip.
