Exposure to 0 and 800ppm of toluene vapor for seven hours every day except Sunday and three hours on Saturday for 12 weeks did not affect the established operant behavior of rats. Exposure to 2,000ppm produced increased responses and shortening of the IRT at the early stage of Sidman avoidance test when compared with those before exposure in the fourth week of the repeated exposure in some rats. The behavioral change indicated here appears to be caused by individual differences in sensitivity to toluene.
