Binary Nb/Al and Nb/Al-X (X=Mg, Ti, Ta, Ge, Si) composite wires were fabricated by the clad-chip extrusion (CCE) method. Composite wires excepting Ge- and Si-added ones could be easily deformed to Nb layer thicknesses of more than 100 nm. The Nb/Al wire with a mean Nb layer thickness of 50 nm showed the superconducting performances superior to the Ti-added Nb_3Sn wire by the bronze method. J_c gave no tendency for saturation even at the thinnest Nb layer thickness in this study, while T_c was saturated at about 17 K. Mg, Ti and Ta had an effect on lowering the optimum reaction temperature without a drop of J_c. Effects of Nb layer thickness and additive elements on superconducting properties are discussed in detail.
