In order to confirm whether the mutual relation exists between the degree of activation of the oxide cathode and the external form of the oxide particles, samples whose emission values were large, medium and small and those obtained from artificially deactivated oxide cathodes were examined by using the electronmicroscope. Barium carbonate particles were also used as direct samples for the electronmicroscopic observation. As the results, it was ascertained that the form of an oxide particle gradually changed with the change of the activity.
