The purpose of this study is to discuss the importance of Literature in English Language teaching. Here we will look at the reason why literary texts could be good teaching materials from several points of view: cultural achievement, teaching vocabulary, authenticity, students' needs, and creativity. We also discuss the importance of material selection. We would conclude that the literary texts would be essential teaching materials as long as teachers choose appropriate texts for their students.
