Our study examines effective approaches to conduct an English lesson in English. We tried the use of a worksheet instead of a grammar-translating activity, and collected speech data. The data analysis suggests that the application of the worksheet increased the use of English by the teacher, whereas it did not encourage the use of English by the students. In addition, we surveyed the students views toward learning English in English. The result shows that students think that if a teacher only used English, the lesson would become more difficult for the students, but their concentration on the lesson would increase. The result also suggests that some students would like to be taught grammar and reading activities in Japanese.
