Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Side-Chain Nonlinear Optical Polymers with Furan Derivative as an Acceptor : Optics and Quantum Electronics

A novel azo-dye-attached nonlinear optical (NLO) polymer with a furan derivative as an acceptor is synthesized and its optical properties are investigated. The acceptor shows a strong ability to enhance the second-order optical nonlinearity of poly methyl methacrylate base NLO polymer. The d_<33> value was more than twice as large as that of the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) base NLO polymer with dicyanovinyl acceptor with the same azobenzene structure.
