To fabricate a low-optical-loss electrooptic (EO) device composed of 4-(4-dimethyl-aminostyryl)-1-methylpyridinium tosylate (DAST) crystal, the structure of a crystal optical waveguide serially grafted with a transparent polymer waveguide is desirable because the optical loss of DAST is large. We successfully fabricated a multimode serially grafted DAST crystal waveguide using a photobleaching method. The optical loss of the DAST optical waveguide itself was evaluated to be 11.22 dB/cm, almost the same as that fabricated by standard photolithography and reaction ion etching (O2-RIE). We conclude that photobleaching is a promising method for the serially grafted DAST crystal waveguide fabrication.
