Fast ions produced by neutral beam injection are lost mainly by charge exchange with the cold neutral gas and pitch-angle scattering into an orbit loss region. The loss of injected ions due to these processes during slowing down is discussed by obtaining a numerical solution of the fast-ion distribution function. The effect of impurity ions on the containment properties of injected ions is investigated, as well as the effect of charge exchange with the cold neutral gas. The loss of injected ions due to orbit loss is also investigated. Furthermore, an analytical treatment on the enhancement of angular diffusion by impurity ions is also described.
