Crystal Structure of a New Copper-Oxide Compound Pb_2Sr_2(Nd_<1-y>Ce_y)_2Cu_3O_<10+δ> with PbO-CuO_δ-PbO Unit

We have discovered a new copper-oxide compound Pb_2Sr_2(Nd_<1-y>Ce_y)_2Cu_3O_<10+δ> with PbO-CuO_δ-PbO unit. The crystal structure was determined by Rietveld analysis of X-ray powder diffraction data. The structure can be derived by stacking Pb_2Sr_2LnCu_3O_8- and Nd_2CuO_4-type stabs alternately along the c-axis; they are joined by conductive CuO_2 sheets. The compound does not exhibit superconductivity down to 4.2 K.
