Photoluminescene of KTaO_3 under Electric Field : Optical Properties of Condensed Matter

The photoluminescence in undoped KTaO_3 crystal has been measured under static electric fields at 49 K. When a voltage is applied to the crystal, the intensity of the blue emission band decreases, and the emission spectrum becomes a yellow emission band. It is shown that these effects are caused by an increase of the temperature in KTaO_3, as a result of Joule heating.
