Reflection and transmission characteristics of layered chiral media bounded by either chiral or achiral media for normally incident transverse waves are investigated. The elastic field behavior in a chiral medium is readily described using governing equations and constitutive relations for noncentrosymmetric, isotropic micropolar materials. Using appropriate field representations along with prescribed boundary conditions, scattering characteristics at chiral-chiral and achiral-chiral interfaces are readily determined. To further investigate scattering characteristics of layered chiral media, a matrix-propagating method is employed in this study to determine the scattering matrix. Scattering characteristics of the four-layer chiral media bounded by two semi-infinite achiral media are simulated and verified. The effects of wave parameters on reflection and transmission coefficients are also discussed.
