Real-time monitoring of picosecond pulse duration of a Gaussian pulse has been demonstrated by the single-shot second-harmonic spatial distribution method. By taking into account the contribution of the actual incident beam profile, the duration of the picosecond pulses from a regeneratively amplified Ti:sapphire laser has been measured at a 10 Hz repetition rate with a pulse energy of 10 μJ.
