Three-Dimensional Echography by a Spherical Pulsed Wave

We developed a new ultrasonic imaging system to obtain a three-dimensional echogram in a blood vessel. The method makes it possible to detect the echo signal from objects rapidly without scanning using a ring array probe. The experiments are performed on a sliced ham and a rabbit heart. The results show that a 3-mm-diameter hole in the ham can be detected and that the three-dimensional structure in the left ventricle can be reconstructed by this system.
