Discharge Current Dependences of Laser Parameters of Regular and Sequence Band Transitions of CO_2

From gain measurement, laser parameters such as rotational temperature, inversion densities, absolute population densities, and excitation and deexcitation rates are determined as functions of the discharge current. The rotational temperature is well defined in both bands and is very close to the gas translational temperature. It is found by rate equation analysis in an ordinary discharge condition, the rates of excitation to the lower laser levels are much larger than those to the upper laser levels. The deexcitation rates of the lower laser levels are evaluated and found to be the most important processes in maintaining the laser gain in both bands.
