A thin-film diode liquid-crystal display (TFD-LCD) with anodic-oxidation in an ammonium borate solution was previously found to appear to reduce afterimages. From the experimental results using a TFD element with an oxide film anodized in an ammonium borate solution, the symmetry of the current-voltage characteristic has been found to be superior to that of a conventional TFD fabricated by anodic-oxidation in citric acid and phosphoric acid solutions. The authors have paid attention to the oxide layer state. Using the results of several measurements and analyses, this paper indicates the reason why a TFD-LCD with anodic-oxidation in an ammonium borate solution shows good display performance with a reduced afterimage.
