Charge Carriers Responsible for Thermoluminescent Recombination Process in Heavily Irradiated NaCl

The thermal annealing behavior of optical absorption bands reveals that two bands peaking at 2.10 and at 5.90 eV correspond to the thermoluminescence (TL) glow (525 K peak) of heavily irradiated NaCl. On the basis of the emitted photon energy compared with the energy levels of the relevant electron and hole centers, the TL is considered to be caused by the recombination of the thermally released holes with the F centers dissociated from the Na clusters.
