Radiative Recombination and Afterglow Characteristics of X-Ray Irradiated BaFCl:Eu^<2+> and KCl:Eu^<2+>

Time and temperature dependence of afterglow intensity and of the F-band in the optical absorption spectra are studied for BaFCl:Eu^<2+> and KCl:Eu^<2+>. Afterglow reveals a single emission band with a peak around 420 nm and 400 nm in BaFCl:Eu^<2+> and KCl:Eu^<2+>, respectively. Decay curves of afterglow and the F-band intensity are analysed using a recombination probability depending on temperature and the distance betweent electron and hole centers. The theoretical curve with three reasonable parameters, is found to be in good agreement with the experimental data of BaFCl:Eu^<2+> as well as of KCl:Eu^<2+>. Surviving probability of the centers in these crystals is also discussed on the basis of the proposed recombination model.
