It is found that a colloidal absorption band in additively colored KCl : Cu crystals shifts toward violet with the increasing concentration of copper. A discussion is given by free electron theory of metal. The number of electrons per copper atom participating in the resonance within the colloidal particle is determined as 0.30, and the shift of the band peak suggests the existence of the surface excess of copper on colloidal potassium spheres.
