Growth of Various Amino-Acid-Doped Triglycine Sulfate Crystals and Their Ferroelectric Properties

Single crystals of triglycine sulfate (TGS) were grown from solutions containing 10 mol% of L-α-alanine, DL-α-alanine / sarcosine / L-serine or L-valine. The crystal form, domain structure and internal bias field E_b of these crystals were investigated. The crystal form and macroscopic distribution of E_b in crystals doped with L-α-alanine and L-serine show polar symmetry 2, and those in crystals with DL-α-alanine and sarcosine show the centrosymmetric 2/m. The molecule of L-valine cannot be incorporated in TGS crystal.
