Characteristics of Ultrasonic Motor Driven by Pulse Train in Trapezoid Form

This paper deals with the transient response of an ultrasonic motor driven by a pulse train in the form of a trapezoid. The relationship between the shape of the pulse train and the starting characteristics of the motor was clarified by simulation and experiment. The transient response of the motor can be obtained through response analysis of an electrically equivalent circuit, considering the two resonance modes of the stator. It was proven that the modification of the driving pulse train is effective for preventing transient vi bration and the growth of metallic noise.
